CUDDALORE: The people of 25 coastal villages, who met at Samiarpettai on Monday, resolved to resist any attempt to set up new industrial ventures in their places. They also expressed their determination not to sell land to any agencies, private and government, for the purpose.

In another resolution they urged the industrial promoters to return the lands to the original owners at the same price for which they had acquired the property.

They further said that the mega projects such as ship-building yard, Nagarjuna refineries, SIMA textile park, private thermal power plant and so on lined up for Cuddalore would cause severe pollution, thereby causing irreparable damage to environment and livelihood of farmers and fishermen.

Therefore, the villagers appealed to the government and the private companies to drop the land acquisition process in these coastal villages. The people of Periapattu, Silambimanglam, Villiyanallur, Kothattai, Chinnakumatti, Vandiyampalayam, Andarmullipallam and so on participated.
