In Cuddalore distict’s Periyappattu village of Parangippettai’s panchayat union, a textile dyeing waste water treatment plant and other manufacturing units have been proposed to be installed. Following this the residents of the surrounding villages of Periyappattu, Periyaandikuzhi, Vaandiyaarpallam, Reddiyaarpettai, Iyyampettai, Paettodai have been expressing their opposition to the project as it will affect their livelihood, ground water, environment, marine life and agriculture. In connection with this the village people submitted a petition to the district collector Mr.Kishorekumar on March 25th stating the following points: On 4-3-2013, led by the MLA Mr.Chidambaram Balakrishnan we submitted a petition to the collector requesting him to ban the textile dyeing waste water treatment plant which will affect our livelihood. At that point the collector informed that necessary action would be taken to stop the preparatory works for the functioning of the plant. The work which had been halted for a few days has resumed. This has led to the village people fearing the worst. Hence we request the district administration to interfere and stop the preparatory works for the waste water treatment plant once and for all.
