Two migrant labourers from Bihar were killed today and four others severely injured after they fell from the chimney of an underconstruction private thermal power station at a village near here, police said.

More than 400 workers from Bihar and other north Indian states were engaged in the construction works at the power station at Periapattu Karikuppam, a seashore village. About 10 workers were attending the plant’s chimney works at a height of 400 metres, Parangipettai Sub-Inspector, R Govindan said.

As the wooden planks on which they were standing collapsed suddenly, eight of them fell down from the height.

Sonu Choudry (27) and Mugit Khan (25) died on the spot and four others, who suffered head injuries, were admitted to a private hospital in Puducherry, he said.

Lack of safety measures adopted in the construction was the cause of the mishap, he said.
