Cuddalore Panchayat Union passes a new resolution – says no to new polluting units in SIPCOT Cuddalore

Cuddalore, 22 February 2006: The Cuddalore Panchayat Union has passed a new resolution on 20 February banning the setting up of new polluting units in the SIPCOT chemical complex. This resolution is of significance as it presents new hurdles for the Chemplast Sanmar’s proposed PVC plant in Cuddalore. There has been tremendous public opposition to the PVC plant in SIPCOT area, numerous groups from the villages and participated in activities to show their opposition to the proposal. Recently, youth of Semmankuppam village, after visiting Chemplast Sanmar’s Mettur PVC plant, had also written to the panchayat union urging them to reject any permissions to the company to set up any facility in the SIPCOT area.
