CUSECS II Sump found flooded in SIPCOT

Cuddalore, 14 January 2008 – SACEM monitors found the CUSECS II sump near the 5th cross road of SIPCOT complex flooded with effluents during a routine pollution patrol today afternoon. According to the monitors the sump was flooded due a leak in the valves. There was also a threat that the effluents would have overflown had the fault not been sealed immediately. The matter was reported to the District Environment Engineer immediately who rushed to the spot for a site inspection and ordered the CUSECS officials to take immediate action to remedy the situation.

This is not the first time that there has been a leak reported from the CUSECS sump. Such leaks and spills are frequent and it seems that no matter how many orders are given to the officials to check them they have become a routine part of the operations of CUSECS.
