TNPCB conducts joint patrol with SIPCOT residents to verify their complaints of increased air pollution

Cuddalore,
4 July 2007: A day after receiving several complaints of increased pollution in the SIPCOT area the District Environment Engineer (DEE) of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) conducted a joint pollution patrol with the SIPCOT villagers and SACEM monitors to assess the situation in the industrial complex. The team conducted a pollution patrol in the area from 7 to 9 pm and verified the complaints. According to the residents who accompanied the team the chemical odour from industries like Shasun and Tantech were very high. The DEE later accepted that the odour levels were exceptionally high and promised to look into the matter and take strict action against the violating companies.
