Pioneer Recognizes Workers’ Union; Workers End Their 69 Day Long Strike

Cuddalore, 19 September 2008: Pioneer Jelice India conceded to the workers demand and accepted to recognize the CITU Union within the factory thus leading to the end of the 69-day long struggle of the agitating workers. This is a definite victory for the workers and sets the process of negotiation on other demands in motion. One of the major hurdles that the workers in the unit have faced is the ability to negotiate their demands due to the lack of a recognized union, this issue now has been resolved thus giving a better platform to the workers to fight for their rights inside the unit.

Workers inside the unit went on an indefinite strike since July 12, 2008. The workers were demanding better working conditions, salary and a permanent end of Company’s activity of illegal discharge of untreated effluents.
