The Madras High Court on Friday issued notices to the Centre, Department of Chemicals and Petro Chemical, and Housing and Urban Development Department, on a public interest litigation.
The PIL, filed by G. Sundarrajan of Poovulagin Nanbargal, sought the quashing of a G.O. that delineated 45 villages in Cuddalore and Nagapattinam, as local planning area under the proposed Petroleum, Chemicals, and Petrochemical Investment Regions (PCPIR).
Mr. Sundarrajan said that under the policy resolution for the PCPIRs, the objectives were to make the country an important hub for international markets by providing a transparent and investment-friendly policy. The government failed to publish the notification in Tamil, thereby not providing an opportunity to the villagers to make any objections or suggestions, he said.
