CHENNAI: PMK’s youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss is set to undertake a journey along the Cauvery river from July 28 in a bid to create awareness among the people living in those areas on the problems plaguing the river and the solutions to ease the water crisis.
“The journey will begin from Hogenakkal and will end on July 30 in Poompuhar, Nagapattinam,” said Anbumani on Thursday. The river along with her tributaries that irrigated 40 lakh hectares of land in Tamil Nadu has now been reduced to just about 29 lakh hectares, according to a statement by the PMK.
Other than the legal aspects to Tamil Nadu’s share in the Cauvery water, Anbumani will also take up topics such as sand mining and the adverse impacts of Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) projects during his trip.
In a thinly veiled attack on the DMK, the PMK’s press statement said that Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water had been brought down to a mere 192 TMC from 575 TMC due to the betrayal of the party that was in power then.
