CHENNAI: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Saturday said that his party would seek public views in Cuddalore and Nagapattinam districts with regard to the creation of the Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR).
In a statement, the VCK leader urged the State government to scrap the proposal as it would affect the tail-end of the delta.
“While the historic drought has affected agriculture in these regions, resulting in farmer suicides, the State government, rather than attempting to solve the crisis, is trying to destroy farming in 45 villages by delineating them for petrochemical parks. It will result in mass migration,” warned Mr. Thirumavalavan.
He added that he would tour the villages concerned and seek the opinions of the people on August 7 and 8.
