CUDDALORE: Police arrested a youth, who attempted to commit suicide opposite the Collectorate here on Thursday demanding adequate compensation for his land acquired by the government.
According to police, the government acquired an acre of land of R Gopalakrishnan (27) from Nochikadu village for construction of a bridge a few months ago. Demanding compensation, he had submitted several petitions to the district administration.
On Thursday, Gopalakrishnan poured diesel over himself and attempted to immolate himself raising slogans against the government. Police reached the spot and prevented him.
Cuddalore New Town police have registered a case and arrested him.
