Cuddalore, 7 October 2005: A boiler explosion that killed on worker was reported from Victory Chemicals. According to the sources the explosion occurred late in the night of October 6, 2005. The worker was a resident of Pilliyarmedu, a village in SIPCOT. The local police and the factory inspector have visited the factory; a case has been filed by the factory inspector against the unit.
For a long time the community has been raising concerns about the conditions in Victory Chemicals, even the previous LAEC chairperson had raised concerns about the unit after his visit to the facility in April 2005. This is not the first time an accident has been reported from SIPCOT, early this year similar accidents were reported from Tagros Chemicals.
