Cuddalore, 18 February 2006 – The residents of SIPCOT Cuddalore observed a day long hunger strike in Cuddalore Old Town in opposition to the poroposed Chemplast Sanmar PVC plant in Cuddalore. More than 50 persons, mostly from Sangolikuppam village of SIPCOT observed the fast.
There have been numerous protests and opposition against the proposed PVC plant in Cuddalore from the time SIPCOT residents became aware of such proposal. Residents, so far have launched massive signature campaign, organsied a rally and even come over to the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board in Chennai to raise questions about the process in which the company was given clearance without consulting the local residents.
