Cuddalore 21 August 2009: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), in a measure to check emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in SIPCOT Cuddalore has issued closure notice to Tagros Chemicals and Shasun Drugs and Chemicals Ltd. This step comes after report from National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) which showed extremely high levels of VOCs from these units. NEERI had conducted a five day sampling exercise in these units in March this year. The electricity connection to the units were disconnected late last night after series of failed negotiations with the district administration on the closure order.
