CPCB visits SIPCOT complex to inspect hazardous waste management inside the units

Cuddalore, 28 January 2006: A Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) representative accompanied by the Assistant Environment Engineer (AEE) of the Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), today visited the industries in SIPCOT Cuddalore to inspect the hazardous waste conditions inside the units. According to SACEM, the visit started at 10 a.m. and went on for about four hours. Some of the prominent industries visited during this inspection were Tagros Chemicals, TANFAC, Shasun Chemicals, Aurobindo Pharma, Loyal Superfabrics, SPIC Pharma and Pioneer Miyagi.

Reportedly, there is immense pressure on TANFAC and Shasun Chemicals to manage their hazardous waste owing to various complaints by the Local Area Environment Committee about their shoddy hazardous waste management practices. SACEM is awaiting more information regarding the CPCB visit, and have also written to the District Environment Engineer of TNPCB for the same.
