Cuddalore , 14 May 2006: A new pollution patrol conducted by the SACEM monitors has once again indicated that the industries in Cuddalore are openly dumping hazardous wastes in the air. The patrol conducted in the night between and showed that the average odour level in the SIPCOT complex ranged from 3 to 6 on a scale of 10 and in some of the units were completely covered by the smoke. SACEM has reported such incidents to the TNPCB in the past too but no action has been taken so far. Even the much hyped Local Area Environment Committee and Supreme Court Monitoring Committee has failed to curb pollution in the area.
