Three SIPCOT units in violation of Supreme Court Order

Cuddalore, 2 May 2006: SACEM monitors today found that three SIPCOT units – Pandian Chemicals, GSR Chemicals and Southern Pigments, were violating the Supreme Court order of displaying the hazardous waste quantity on the factory gate. According to the monitors none of the units have a display board on the gate that explains the quantum and type of hazardous wastes generated by the units. This was discovered while the monitors were conducting a pollution patrol
in the SIPCOT complex. This violation has been reported to the Local Area Environment Committee, Supreme Court Monitoring Committee and the TNPCB officials and their response is awaited.
