Chemplast Sanmar releases foul smelling discharge during rains

Mettur, 1 December 2011: There was yet another instance of illegal and ongoing discharge of foul-smelling effluents into the channel dug by Chemplast alongside the compound wall of their Plant II. The channel empties into a public drain that leads to the Cauvery. Water has been flowing from the Plant II wall ever since the rains began in the month of November 2011. According to the representative of the Gonur West Agriculturists Development Union (GWADU), starting November 28, 2011, the liquids flowing out have carried a “moderately intense” odour though not as strong as the discharge reported on 4 May, 2011, when the last sample was taken. A sample of water was taken at 10.30 a.m. on 30 November, 2011, by a representative of GWADU. Results of the samples are awaited.
