Cuddalore, 23 April, 2006: T. Arulselvam of SACEM fainted after inhaling noxious fumes from Tantech while he was on a pollution patrol of SIPCOT area along with other SACEM members. The incident occurred around 5:40 pm today. The monitors reported a strong mosquito coil odour from the unit which was ranked at 7. Arul was given first aid by the other monitors and his condition is better now. This is not the first time that the residents of SIPCOT have been injured due to pollution, there have been numerous incidents of air pollution related injuries in the past including a few where school children from Eachangadu and bus commuters on the Cuddalore – Chidambaram highway were injured.
