SIPCOT Company found operating illegally, SACEM demands action

Cuddalore, 18 February 2006: During the pollution patrol conducted on 18 February 2006, the SACEM monitors found out that a SIPCOT company, Southern Pigments, which had been closed three years ago, was operating without a valid permissions. The company was running on electricity through generators and has a private bore well to meet its demand for water. According to sources the unit was manufacturing Potassium Chloride for TANFAC, another company in SIPCOT Complex. This violation was immediately reported to the Assistant Environment Engineer of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. A letter of complaint reporting the incident and demanding a probe in the matter has also been sent to the offices of TNPCB.
