SACEM noticed and reported another incident of effluent leak in the pipeline that carries the effluents to CUSECS pump 2. The effluent overflow was noticed at about 10:20 am on Monday, March 21, 2005, near Periya Karaikadu. According to the monitors, the effluent was black in colour and had a rotten egg smell.
The Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board took immediate action based on the complaint by SACEM, and supervised the clean-up of the effluents, and rectification of the leak.
This is the second incident in the last two months of effluent leak.
