One Contract Worker Killed in an Industrial Accident in Tagros Chemicals

Cuddalore, 19 May 2005: A. Pragalathan, a contract worker in Tagros Chemicals from Pachaiyankuppam village, SICPOT Cuddalore, was killed in an accident inside the factory on the evening of 18 May 2005. According to sources the accident took place at about 6:30 pm when Pragalathan was on the maintenance job working on the ground floor near the production unit of the industry. He was engaged in dismantling some equipment when a hook from one of the chains from the second floor fell on him and hit the side of his head above the neck. He died on the spot. Pragalathan was thirty five years old and is survived by a wife, three daughters and one son.

SACEM has filed an official complaint with the Factories inspectorate reporting the accident. The matter is currently being investigated by the officers from the department and their report is awaited.

Industrial accidents are quite common in the SIPCOT area, a lot of accidents involving injuries to workers have been reported in the last one year.
